Matamata is growing and the Maea Fields development is the next chapter for the thriving town.

Centrally located near Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua, the town known for starring in the Lord of the Rings films lives up to its name, Middle-earth. Matamata is a place where you can escape the noise and fast pace of the city while staying near bustling urban life.

Matamata itself also has a lot to offer. It has walking and cycling tracks, sports clubs and gyms to satisfy your active nature. Playgrounds, parks and Matamata Racing Club’s regular events can keep you and the kids entertained. Amenities such as shops and churches complete the package.

Emerging subdivision Maea Fields is being built on the 230-hectare Calcutta Farms, owned by the Balle family. The Balles are well-known in Matamata for their family business of growing vegetables, including potatoes and onions.

It is the start of Matamata’s expansion towards the east and Mangawhero Stream. The area will be given a new lease of life with cycle trails and pedestrian-friendly paths. Developers will honour and sustainably build on the land’s history, working with Matamata-Piako District Council to create a diverse, connected and resilient community. Maea – To emerge, arise and appear. To be lifted, raised or harvested.
